In the walled courtyards of old Jaipur, embroiderers have long turned fabric into folklore — stitching not just flowers and vines, but characters, talismans, and half-remembered tales passed down through generations of needlework. This jacket carries that spirit forward, its deep black velvet transformed into a nocturnal storybook where a small red-cloaked figure waves from among coral branches and drifting stars.
Hand-embroidered in dense chain and satin stitch, the jacket is populated with a wandering cast: teal bottle-gourd vases, cardinal-red starfish, lilac coral fans dotted like winter berries, looping sky-blue vines, and scattered alphabet-like motifs that read more as ancient script than letters. At its heart stands a gingerbread-hued figure in a crimson coat and white fur trim — part toy, part talisman — rendered with the same care given to a Suzani medallion.
This is velvet meant to be worn like a keepsake — heavy enough for cold evenings, playful enough to anchor a room. Each thread is laid by hand, so no two jackets carry the figure in quite the same pose, making this piece as much a small artwork as it is outerwear.
