The Gulbadan Midnight — Hand Suzani Embroidered Velvet Jacket

Every other jacket in the Gulbadan collection uses four, five, six colours of embroidery. The Gulbadan Midnight uses two. That restraint — cream-gold and teal on midnight navy — is what makes it the most striking piece in the range.

The composition is structured and generous: large chrysanthemum and daisy-form flowers in deep teal fill the lower front panels and sleeves, their petals worked in dense chain stitch that gives them a three-dimensional, almost sculptural quality. Cream-gold botanical fern scrolls arc above and between them — feathered, branching forms that fill the upper body and collar area with delicate, almost metallic detail. Teal pomegranate buds on curling cream tendrils connect the two motif families across the jacket surface.

The two-colour palette — teal and cream-gold on navy — has the graphic clarity of a Japanese textile, the botanical vocabulary of Central Asian Suzani, and the material luxury of velvet. It is a combination that works across every context: worn over a simple white shirt it is a collector's statement; worn to an evening occasion it needs no jewellery.

The navy-white striped cotton lining peeks at the open mandarin collar. The scalloped hem border in cream chain stitch completes the jacket with precision.
