In the workshops of Jaipur, wooden blocks carved with centuries-old botanical motifs are pressed by hand into cotton — each impression a small act of devotion. The Gulshan Baagh, meaning 'rose garden' in Persian, draws from the grand floral vocabularies of Mughal court textiles and the indo-chintz traditions that once travelled the spice routes. Its ground is the colour of unripe lime softened by sun — a pale, dusty citron that carries the warmth of the Rajasthani afternoon within it.
Across this luminous field, a riotous garden unfolds: pomegranates split open in deep crimson and forest green, their seeds rendered with botanical precision; iris blooms in cobalt and indigo burst from curling vines; carnations and fantasy flowers in magenta and wine red cascade across the cloth in the manner of a 17th-century kalamkari. The striped contrast binding — burnt orange and ivory — runs along the front placket and cuffs, a nod to the striped patkas worn at the Rajput court, grounding the wildness of the floral field with a bold, architectural line.
Cut in a relaxed, open-front silhouette — kimono-influenced yet entirely its own — this jacket is as easy worn over a white kurta at a Sunday market as it is layered over a silk slip for an evening. It is the kind of piece that gathers stories: the kind of piece that people ask about. Limited to a small run, each jacket carries the natural irregularities of hand block printing — no two are identical.
