The Jungle Darbar — Block Printed Velvet Jacket — Sky Blue & Ochre

In the courts of Rajputana, walls were adorned with hunting scenes — leopards mid-leap, exotic birds perched in lush canopies, the jungle rendered as theatre. This jacket draws from that same visual language: the shikar (hunting) narrative reimagined in hand block-printed velvet, a tradition carried forward from the ateliers of Jaipur where cloth has long been treated as canvas.

Set against a washed sky-blue velvet ground, the print unfolds like a jungle manuscript — golden-ochre cheetahs stretch and prowl through feathered palm fronds rendered in deep forest green and burgundy. Toucans in stark black-and-white perch alongside scarlet macaws. Smaller motifs — a coiled serpent, a preening parrot, clusters of tropical flora — fill every inch with considered detail. The palette is rich yet balanced: ochre, jade, black, crimson, and dusty teal, all anchored by that soft cerulean base.

Cut in a relaxed silhouette with a clean collar and front placket, this jacket wears equally well thrown over linen trousers at a summer evening gathering or layered atop a white kurta. It is not subtle — nor was it meant to be. It carries the confidence of craft made by hands that understand both pattern and story.
