In the villages that ring the Thar, the date palm stands as a symbol of endurance — a solitary green flame against endless sand. It is this image, half-memory and half-myth, that anchors the back of this jacket: a single embroidered palm rising from the hem, as though planted in the very weave of the cloth.
Worked entirely by hand in deep indigo and bottle-green threads, the palm's fronds fan outward in loose, painterly stitches, while its trunk is rendered in tight, textured rows that mimic bark. The hem and cuffs are bordered with a traditional Rajasthani vine — a repeating trellis of florets in indigo, ivory, and moss, echoing the mughal-era textile borders once used to frame temple hangings and royal shawls. The body itself is left in its natural, undyed cotton — a slubby, handloom weave that carries the slight imperfections of the loom.
Unlined and unstructured, this jacket drapes rather than fits — a piece meant to be thrown over the shoulders on a cool evening, its raw texture softening with every wear. No two palms are stitched quite the same, making each jacket a singular, living object rather than a mere garment.
