In the old quarters of Samarkand and Bukhara, women once stitched suzanis as dowry cloths — vast gardens of thread meant to bless a household with abundance. This long jacket carries that same spirit forward, its lilac cotton ground blooming with the kind of exuberant florals once reserved for wedding textiles, reimagined here as an everyday second skin.
Rust-orange sunflowers with jade centers anchor the composition, echoed by hot pink blossoms and deep indigo paisleys that scatter like falling petals down the sleeves and hem. Emerald vine work — looping, curling, never quite repeating — threads the entire garment together, while a central medallion of burnt sienna and coral sits like a sun at the small of the back. Every stitch is laid by hand, chain and satin work built up in dense, tactile layers of wool-thread color against the crisp cotton base.
Cut long and generously relaxed, with a mandarin collar and dropped shoulder, it drapes rather than fits — meant to be thrown over linen or denim, worn open as a coat or belted as a robe. No two are stitched quite alike; the artisan's hand shows in every slightly imperfect flower.
