In the workshops of Jaipur, where Central Asian suzani tradition meets Rajasthani hands, this kimono began as a length of saffron-orange wool and a spool of teal thread. The embroiderer worked the way her grandmother taught her — one vine, one leaf, one bloom at a time — until the fabric held an entire garden.
Turquoise tendrils climb the spine and sleeves in looping chain stitch, breaking into fern-like leaves along the borders. Deep cobalt blossoms burst across the collar and shoulders, each centered with a cluster of hot pink French knots. Deeper still, oxblood tulips and forest-green foliage ground the palette, echoing the florals found on antique Uzbek suzani textiles reimagined here in wool. Open it, and a crisp red-and-white candy-stripe cotton lining reveals itself — a quiet, tailored contrast to the exuberance outside.
Cut long and unstructured with dropped shoulders and dramatic sleeves, this piece drapes rather than fits — thrown over linen for evening, or worn alone as the outfit itself. The self-fabric tie and tasseled closure are the only concessions to structure; everything else is left to move.
