Somewhere between the caravan routes of Samarkand and the embroidery halls of Jaipur, the suzani tradition found new hands to carry it forward. This long kimono is our tribute to that lineage — a canvas of raw ivory cotton overtaken by climbing black vines, as if a midnight garden had been left to grow wild across the cloth.
Hand-embroidered in dense chain and satin stitch, the motif is unmistakably suzani: tulip heads bowing on curling stems, pomegranate buds, and spiraling tendrils that Uzbek and Rajasthani artisans alike have stitched for generations to symbolize fertility and abundance. The black embroidery sits thick and sculptural against the undyed cotton ground, edged in fine outline stitching that gives the pattern its graphic, almost woodcut quality. A glimpse of red-and-white striped lining peeks through the open front, a quiet, unexpected note against all that botanical density.
Cut long and unstructured, with dropped kimono sleeves and a self-tie waist, this piece drapes rather than fits — meant to be thrown over linen trousers or a slip dress, worn open, worn loose, worn as the statement it already is.
